August Marijuana Sales Reach Nearly $24 Million in Maine, Bringing Year-to-Date Total to Around $165 Million

Maine’s legal marijuana industry reported $23,911,339 in sales during August, the second highest monthly total ever for the state, topped only by the $23,951,539 sold in August 2024.

The total came from 465,498 transactions, keeping 2025 on pace to set another yearly record, according to new figures from the Office of Cannabis Policy. Sales were driven primarily by “usable cannabis,” which brought in $13.4 million. Concentrates followed at $6.8 million, while infused products generated $3.6 million. Other product categories made up the remainder.

Through the first eight months of 2025, licensed retailers have sold $164,560,627 worth of marijuana and marijuana products, spread across more than 3 million transactions. That marks a sharp increase from the $140.9 million collected during the same period last year.

Prices continue to edge down. The average price for a gram of marijuana flower dropped to $6.50 in August, compared to $6.74 for the year-to-date average. Declining prices have been a consistent trend since 2023, reflecting greater supply and increasing market maturity.

Maine voters legalized recreational marijuana in 2016, with licensed sales beginning in October 2020. The state imposes a 10% sales tax on adult-use purchases, alongside a product-specific excise tax, with proceeds directed to public health programs, municipal reimbursements, and the state’s general fund.
