Marijuana sales in Missouri reached nearly $119 million in September, bringing the all-time total to above $4.5 billion.
According to figures released today by the Department of Health and Senior Services, recreational transactions once again drove the market, with $105.48 million in adult-use purchases. Medical marijuana added another $13.43 million, keeping patient sales steady even as adult-use dominates the overall industry. The combined $118.91 million is slightly above the $117 million sold during the same period in 2024.
Through the end of September, Missouri marijuana retailers have sold $1.132 billion worth of product in 2025. That pace puts the state on track to exceed the $1.46 billion sold in 2024, which remains the current yearly record.
Since the launch of medical sales in 2020 and the start of recreational sales in February 2023, Missouri’s combined marijuana market has now generated $4.537 billion in sales. Adult-use continues to account for roughly 90% of monthly revenue, reflecting consumer preference in the state’s growing industry.
Under the constitutional amendment approved by voters in 2022, recreational marijuana carries a 6% excise tax on top of state and local sales taxes, while medical marijuana remains untaxed beyond the standard sales tax. Missouri’s first recreational marijuana stores opened in February 2023, less than three months after the vote. Since then, tax revenue from marijuana sales has already surpassed $400 million, supporting veterans’ services, public health programs and substance abuse treatment.
