Rhode Island marijuana retailers generated $10.38 million in October sales, a 6% increase from the same month last year, according to new data from the Cannabis Control Commission.
Adult-use purchases accounted for $8.93 million of the total, while medical marijuana sales reached $1.45 million. With these figures, year-to-date sales have climbed to around $100 million, signaling steady growth for the state’s expanding marijuana market.
The average transaction amount for October was $34.85, consistent with recent months and reflective of stable pricing across categories. Pre-packaged bud continued to lead all products in sales, followed by raw pre-rolls, vape cartridges, and edibles. Concentrates, tinctures, and topicals represented smaller but steady portions of the market.
Under Rhode Island’s marijuana legalization law, adults 21 and older can purchase and possess up to one ounce of marijuana and cultivate up to six plants (with no more than three mature) for personal use. The law, approved in May 2022, also established a 10% cannabis excise tax in addition to the 7% state sales tax and a 3% local tax, with revenue shared between the state’s general fund, municipalities, and social equity initiatives.
The latest figures reinforce Rhode Island’s trend of consistent monthly performance and strong consumer participation, with adult-use sales continuing to drive most of the market’s momentum as 2025 nears its close.
