Illinois Marijuana Sales Top $630 Million So Far in 2026, With 25 Million Items Sold

Marijuana sales in Illinois have topped $630 million through the first five months of 2026, with 25 million items sold, according to data released today by the state’s Cannabis Regulation Oversight Office.

In total, Illinois dispensaries reported about $632 million in combined adult-use and medical marijuana sales from January through May. Adult-use sales accounted for approximately $566 million of that total.

May was the strongest month of the year so far, with $134 million in total sales, including $120 million in adult-use purchases and $14 million in medical marijuana sales.

That followed $128 million in total sales in April, including $115 million in adult-use sales; $128 million in March, also including $115 million in adult-use sales; $118 million in February, including $105 million in adult-use sales; and $124 million in January, including $111 million in adult-use sales.

In May, flower remained the top-selling product category, accounting for $72.6 million in sales. Concentrates followed at $42.6 million, while infused edibles brought in $17.9 million. Other marijuana products accounted for the remainder.

The new data also shows continued price declines across major product categories.

The average price of dried flower in May was $5.77 per gram, nearly 30% lower than the $8.14 average reported a year earlier. The average price of concentrates was $35, down from $47 a year ago.

Illinois currently has 228 adult-use marijuana dispensaries and 55 medical-only dispensaries.

Illinois legalized adult-use marijuana in 2019, with the first licensed recreational sales beginning on January 1, 2020. Adults 21 and older are allowed to possess up to 30 grams of marijuana, five grams of marijuana concentrate and 500 milligrams of THC in infused products. Nonresidents are allowed to possess half those amounts.
