Tilray Medical has commercially launched its first medical cannabis product in Panama, expanding the company’s presence in Latin America.
The company announced that Tilray Oral Solution CBD100 has been shipped from its European Union Good Manufacturing Practice-certified production facility in Portugal. The prescription product will be distributed through Farmacias Arrocha, a major pharmacy network operating throughout Panama.
The launch is being conducted through Tilray’s joint venture with Solana Life Group, which holds authorization to cultivate, manufacture, import, export, distribute and sell medical cannabis products in Panama.
Tilray first announced its entry into the Panamanian market in October through a partnership with Top Tech Global Inc. The companies formed Solana Life Group to combine Tilray’s international cannabis operations with Top Tech’s experience distributing medical devices in Panama.
Tilray Oral Solution CBD100 was manufactured in Portugal and is intended for patients with qualifying conditions under Panama’s medical cannabis program. Patients will need a medical prescription to obtain the product.
Panama legalized marijuana for medical and therapeutic purposes under Law 242, which was enacted in October 2021. The country subsequently established regulations governing cultivation, manufacturing, importing, exporting, storage, transportation and distribution.
The Ministry of Health adopted additional patient-access requirements in May through Resolution No. 0406. The resolution approved registration forms for medical cannabis patients and authorized caregivers, along with medical certification documents required to participate in the program.
Panama has also created the Medical Cannabis Users and Authorized Caregivers Identification System, known as SIUCMAA, to provide a formal process for physician authorization and patient registration.
Tilray said its facilities in Portugal serve as an export center for regulated markets around the world. The company currently supplies medical cannabis products in more than 20 countries across Europe, Australia, Canada, Latin America and other regions.
The Panama launch is part of Tilray’s broader effort to expand its medical cannabis operations throughout Latin America as additional countries establish regulated access to cannabinoid-based medicines.
