Connecticut Marijuana Sales Allowed During Christmas and New Year’s Day, Despite Alcohol Sales Being Prohibited

Despite alcohol sales being prohibited on Christmas and New Year’s Day in Connecticut, marijuana sales are allowed.

According to the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection, marijuana sales can continue unabated on both Christmas and New Year’s Day.

The Department says that not only can marijuana stores retain normal hours during the two federal holidays, but they can actually stay open an extra hour on New Year’s Eve, until 3am.

“Every year we remind consumers and businesses that, due to Connecticut law, hours for some liquor permittees change during the holidays”, says Consumer Protection Commissioner Bryan T. Cafferelli. “If you choose to consume alcohol with your holiday celebrations, be sure to make those purchases ahead of time, and, of course, please drink responsibly”.

He continues: “And, because we regulate many things you may be wondering about, Connecticut Law does not prohibit the sale of cannabis, or limit your ability to place wagers during the holidays. No matter how you choose to spend the holidays, please know your limit, arrange designated drivers and be respectful of the establishments and communities where you celebrate”.

According to the Department, Connecticut marijuana stores sold $25,689,805 worth of legal marijuana and marijuana products in November, a new monthly record.
