Study: Woman With Glioblastoma Enters Long-Term Remission After Using Medical Cannabis, Melatonin and Ozone Therapy

A new case study details the remarkable long-term remission of a woman diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), an aggressive and typically fatal brain tumor, following a treatment regimen that combined medical cannabis, high-dose melatonin and ozone therapy.

The patient, a 36-year-old woman in Italy, underwent partial surgical removal of the tumor in August 2016. While she initially began standard chemotherapy and radiation, she discontinued the chemotherapy after the first cycle due to serious side effects, including thrombocytopenia. Instead, she began an unconventional course of therapy that included rectal administration of ozone-oxygen (O₂O₃) gas, oral melatonin at doses up to 2 grams per day, and high daily doses of two regulated medical cannabis products, Bedrocan and Bedrolite.

Over the next several months and years, the patient received regular imaging and clinical monitoring. According to the study, published in Reports, MRI scans confirmed that the residual 2 cm tumor mass visible in October 2016 had disappeared by February 2017. Follow-up imaging conducted in 2021 and 2022 showed no signs of recurrence. As of the date of publication, nearly seven years after diagnosis, the woman remains alive and symptom-free.

While the authors emphasize this is a single case and not evidence of a proven treatment, they argue that the outcome is significant enough to warrant further investigation. Cannabinoids like THC and CBD have shown anti-tumor effects in preclinical glioblastoma studies, and melatonin has been linked to improved outcomes in cancer therapy. Ozone therapy, though less studied in oncology, has been explored for its anti-inflammatory and immune-modulating effects.

The researchers conclude that, although the current literature is limited and does not support this regimen as a standard treatment, the combination may hold potential as a future supportive approach to managing GBM. They call for controlled clinical trials to determine whether this strategy may be effective in a broader patient population.
