Florida now has 923,918 registered medical marijuana patients, according to data released today by the state’s Department of Health.

That figure is more than 40,000 higher than the 883,503 patients reported at this time last year, and nearly 25,000 above the total at the start of 2025.
Florida operates the nation’s largest medical-only marijuana market, with patients able to purchase flower, concentrates, tinctures, topicals, edibles, and other products from hundreds of licensed dispensaries statewide, as long as they receive a recommendation from a licensed physician. Despite not allowing recreational sales, Florida consistently records higher monthly marijuana sales than nearly every other state, trailing only California, Michigan, and Illinois.
The state’s medical marijuana program was established following a 2016 constitutional amendment approved by 71% of voters.
The state’s medical cannabis market has generated over $1.1 billion in sales so far in 2025, including $149 million in August alone.
Meanwhile, efforts to expand access continue. Smart & Safe Florida is working to qualify a recreational legalization measure for the 2026 ballot. The campaign has already submitted more than 660,000 valid signatures, roughly 75% of the 880,062 required to make the ballot.
