Governor Andy Beshear announced today that Kentucky’s medical cannabis program has crossed several key milestones, bringing patients closer to safe access for the first time in the state’s history.

According to the governor, more than 15,000 medical cannabis cards have been approved for Kentuckians with qualifying conditions since the program’s launch. Over 500 health-care practitioners are now registered to recommend cannabis, a number expected to rise as more providers complete required training.
On the business side, approved cultivators are preparing for their first harvests, while safety compliance facilities are ready to begin testing products as they become available. The state’s first dispensary, TreeSoft – operating as The Post in Ohio County – has received approval to open. In addition, the program’s first licensed processor, Bison Infused, is scheduled for an inspection on October 29. That inspection will complete the program’s “full process cycle,” covering cultivation, processing, testing, and retail sales.
“Each day, we’re getting closer to delivering on our promise of safe medical cannabis for Kentuckians in need – and I’m proud of the progress we’re making,” Gov. Beshear said.
The updates mark an important step in the rollout of Kentucky’s medical cannabis law, which was signed by Gov. Beshear last year. With the first dispensary now approved, patients with state-issued medical cannabis cards are expected to have access to regulated products in the near future.
