Arkansas’ medical marijuana program continues to expand, with 112,760 patients now registered as of November 1, 2025, according to new figures released by the Department of Health.
The program was established after voters passed the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment (Issue 6) in November 2016. The measure legalized medical marijuana for patients with qualifying conditions and physician approval. Sales officially began in May 2019 when the first dispensary opened in Hot Springs, marking the start of what has become one of the South’s most robust medical markets.
Since launching, Arkansas’ medical marijuana industry has generated over $1.5 billion in total sales, with nearly $200 million reported so far in 2025 alone. The state’s network of licensed growers and dispensaries remains limited compared to many other markets, but demand has steadily increased year over year.
The 112,760 current patient count is an increase of around 2,000 from October. The growing patient base reflects both expanding access and ongoing medical acceptance of marijuana treatment across Arkansas. Now approaching seven years of retail operations, the state’s program continues to solidify its position as a leading medical marijuana market in the region.
