Florida regulators have approved two new medical marijuana dispensaries, bringing the statewide total to 742, according to the latest weekly update from the Office of Medical Marijuana Use.
The newly approved locations were cleared during the week of January 9 through January 15 and include a Goldflower Cannabis dispensary in Cape Coral and a new The Flowery location in Palmetto Bay. With those approvals, Florida’s medical marijuana market continues its steady expansion more than seven years after voters legalized the program under Amendment 2.
The updated total reflects the number of dispensing locations operated by licensed medical marijuana treatment centers across the state. Florida requires treatment centers to be vertically integrated, meaning each license holder must handle cultivation, processing, and retail sales. Each individual storefront must receive separate authorization from the state before opening to patients.
Trulieve continues to dominate the market with 162 dispensing locations statewide, far more than any other operator. MÜV, operates under Verano Holdings, follows with 82 locations. Curaleaf Florida is third with 70 locations, followed by Ayr Cannabis with 66 and Surterra Wellness with 45. Several other operators maintain sizable footprints, including Green Dragon with 40 locations, Fluent and Planet 13 with 33 each, and Sunnyside with 31. A dozen other operators run the remaining 180 dispensaries.
The approvals come as Florida’s medical marijuana program continues to serve a large and growing patient base. As of mid-January, nearly 932,000 Floridians held active medical marijuana ID cards, allowing them to purchase regulated marijuana products from authorized dispensaries.
With 742 dispensing locations now authorized statewide, Florida remains one of the largest medical marijuana markets in the U.S., both in terms of patient participation and retail footprint. Only Oklahoma has more dispensaries, although they have far less patients.
