Germany Grants 14 More Licenses for Marijuana Social Clubs

German officials have granted licenses to 14 additional marijuana social clubs across four states.

Germany’s cannabis cultivation social clubs saw continued growth in both applications and licenses throughout September, although the pace has slowed compared to previous months.

Recent data shows that 14 licenses have now been granted across four federal states, as more regions and regulatory bodies refine their application processes.

Applications for cannabis social clubs increased by 34%, rising from 226 in August to 303 by the end of September. However, this is a noticeable drop from the 237% spike in applications between July and August, when numbers soared from 67 to 226.

Despite the overall growth, applicants continue to face challenges, including inconsistent regulations across states and difficulty securing suitable properties to start their application process.

At the end of August, Berlin’s State Office for Health and Social Affairs (LAGeSo) granted its first license after receiving 21 applications since clubs were permitted to apply in July.

The Green Leaf Society e.V., operating in Berlin’s Marzahn-Hellersdorf district, allows members to cultivate and access up to 50 grams of cannabis per month for personal use.

Members are required to pay a monthly fee of €89 for 10 grams of cannabis and must complete two hours of volunteer work each month. Missing this commitment comes with a €15 charge for each unfulfilled hour.

In a similar move, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s State Office for Agriculture, Food Safety, and Fisheries in Rostock (LALLF) issued its first license in late August to soChill Green Cannabis Club Greifswald e.V.
