A recent Harris Poll survey conducted for Green Thumb Industries’ incredibles brand reveals that sleep difficulties impact nearly 79% of adults age 21 and older.
The survey highlights a growing trend of using cannabis as a sleep aid, with 16% of adults turning to marijuana—more than those who use prescription sleep aids (12%) or alcohol (11%). Among cannabis consumers, edibles are particularly popular for improving sleep quality.
Key findings from the survey include:
- 79% of adults report difficulty sleeping due to concerns such as finances (32%) or family issues (28%).
- 16% use cannabis for sleep, and 21% of adults who consume cannabis prefer edibles for this purpose.
- Over half (52%) of those consuming cannabis edibles do so to aid sleep.
Parents of children under 18 are more likely to use cannabis for sleep (21%) compared to non-parents (13%), with financial concerns affecting 42% of this group. Additionally, 77% of parents with kids under 18 wish they could sleep better, and 57% consume cannabis edibles, compared to 34% of non-parents.
The survey, conducted June 6–10, 2024, included over 2,000 adults and has a margin of error of ±2.5 percentage points.
