There was CA$404,708,00 worth of marijuana and marijuana products sold legally in Canada in February, according to new data released today by Statistics Canada.
Februarys sales totals are a slight increase from the CA$402 million sold in February 2024, but are below the CA$437 million sold in January. So far in 2025, the nation’s legal cannabis market has generated nearly CA$850 million in sales.
Ontario led the nation in million in sales with CA$162 million, followed by Alberta with CA$73 million. British Columbia came in third with CA$58 million, Quebec was fourth with CA$42 million, and Manitoba rounded out the top five with CA$20 million. Of these top five providences, only Manitoba saw increased sales from January to February.
December 2024 was the highest-grossing month for marijuana sales in the country’s history, bringing in CA$499.7 million. That pushed total marijuana sales for 2024 to CA$5.3 billion.
Canada legalized marijuana nationwide in 2018, with retail sales launching the following year. Adults 18 and older are allowed to purchase and possess up to 30 grams of marijuana or 10 grams of marijuana concentrates. Households can also grow up to four marijuana plants for personal use.
The country now has over 4,100 licensed marijuana retail outlets. All marijuana products are subject to an excise tax, in addition to provincial sales taxes that range between 5% and 15%. Dried flower and pre-rolls are taxed at a minimum of CA$1 per gram or 10% of the wholesale price—whichever is higher.
