Three men from Texas have been sentenced for posing as DEA agents and stealing over 200 pounds of marijuana during a violent home invasion in southern Oregon.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the incident occurred on March 12, 2022, at a rural residence in Josephine County. Nevin Cuevas Morales, Michael Rey Acuna, and Juan Carlos Conchas, all 23 years old at the time, traveled from San Antonio to Oregon with the intent to carry out an armed robbery. Wearing fake DEA gear and body armor, the trio restrained the home’s occupants with zip ties and duct tape before fleeing with several large bags of marijuana.
Sheriff’s deputies who responded to the scene found firearms, ammunition, and imitation DEA badges left behind, along with two abandoned vehicles bearing Texas plates. A subsequent investigation led to the suspects’ arrests in San Antonio in October 2022 following their indictment a month earlier.
Morales was sentenced to 135 months in federal prison and Acuna to 64 months. Both will serve additional years under supervised release. Conchas, who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery and conspiracy to possess marijuana with intent to distribute, faces up to 40 years and is scheduled to be sentenced on July 17.
