Kentucky has officially approved its first medical marijuana dispensary, with plans to open later this year.

Governor Andy Beshear announced on social media that The Post Dispensary in Beaver Dam is the first in the state to receive operational approval under Kentucky’s new medical marijuana program. An exact opening date has not been given, and the business has yet to comment publicly.
“This is another step forward as we work to ensure Kentuckians with serious medical conditions have access to the medicine they need and deserve,” said Governor Beshear.
The state awarded licenses to marijuana businesses through a lottery system in 2024, and license holders have since been working to meet regulatory requirements in order to begin operations. The Post is the first dispensary to clear those hurdles.
Earlier this month, Beshear also announced that Armory Kentucky LLC in Mayfield became the state’s first approved medical marijuana cultivator after passing inspection. He credited bipartisan work in the legislature for helping speed up the rollout of the program.
“This administration made a commitment to Kentuckians suffering from cancer, PTSD, multiple sclerosis and other eligible conditions, and I am proud we are making progress to deliver safe, affordable access to medical cannabis,” said Beshear in a July 15 statement.
Additional dispensaries and cultivators are expected to come online in the weeks ahead.
