The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency has partnered with local organizations and a marijuana retailer to distribute free locking storage bags as part of the Lock It Up campaign.

The effort is funded through the Marihuana Operation and Oversight Grant, which is allocated based on the number of medical marijuana cardholders in each county.
“We are pleased to have again received grant funding from the Marihuana Operation and Oversight Grant to support the Lock It Up campaign”, says Health Officer Rebecca Burns. “These dollars are provided based on medical marijuana cards issued in each county”.
The Lock It Up bags are currently available at several locations across St. Joseph County:

While state law mandates child-resistant packaging and bans candy-like products, many unlicensed THC edibles mimic popular sweets and remain unregulated, leading some health experts to suggest parents take extra precaution to ensure cannabis edibles are stores safely and away from kids.
While cannabis and its compounds like THC are nonlethal, ingestion in children can lead to side effects like confusion, lethargy, nausea, vomiting, and difficulty breathing.
