Montana Marijuana Sales Hit $29.4 Million in July, Second-Highest Monthly Total Ever

Montana’s legal marijuana market posted its second-highest monthly sales total ever in July, bringing in $29,459,277—just shy of the $29,716,881 record set in August 2024.

The strong showing underscores the continued strength of the state’s marijuana industry. Of the July total, $3,153,494 came from medical marijuana sales, while adult-use sales accounted for $26,305,782.

Through the first seven months of 2025, combined marijuana sales in Montana total $187,991,768. This represents a slight icnrease compared to the same period in 2024 and pushes the state’s all-time legal marijuana sales to $1,133,514,750 since the launch of the market.

Montana voters approved adult-use marijuana through Initiative 190 in November 2020, allowing those 21 and older to legally possess and purchase marijuana from licensed stores. Retail sales began on January 1, 2022. Under state law, adults may possess up to one ounce of marijuana or up to eight grams of marijuana concentrate. Home cultivation is also allowed, with individuals allowed to grow up to two mature plants and two seedlings for personal use.

With sales growth continuing month after month, Montana’s marijuana industry is on pace for its strongest year yet, fueled by consistent demand from both medical patients and recreational consumers.
