Anchorage Cannabis Sales Top $50 Million in First Half of 2025, Generating Over $2.6 Million in Taxes

The legal marijuana market in Anchorage, Alaska has surpassed $50 million in sales through the first six months of 2025, according to data from the city’s Finance Department.

From January through June, licensed retailers reported $52.1 million in taxable marijuana and marijuana product sales. That figure includes $8.7 million in January, $8.1 million in February, $8.8 million in March, $8.8 million in April, $8.6 million in June, and a peak of nearly $8.9 million in May.

The city’s 5% marijuana sales tax brought in $2.6 million in revenue during the same period. Monthly collections ranged from $407,089 in February to $447,111 in May.

Anchorage has consistently been the hub of Alaska’s marijuana industry since voters legalized recreational use in 2014, with the first licensed stores opening in 2016. Tax revenue from marijuana sales goes into the city’s general fund, helping support essential services and easing budgetary pressures.

If current trends hold, Anchorage is on pace to generate more than $100 million in marijuana sales and over $5 million in local tax revenue by the end of 2025.

Anchorage has a population of nearly 300,000, representing nearly 40% of all Alaskan residents.
