Steve Eisman, the investor known from The Big Short for predicting the housing market crash, says he’s entered the marijuana sector with a small investment and believes President Donald Trump may soon take significant federal action.
Speaking on the Lemonade Stand podcast, Eisman was asked what areas of the market he’s watching.
“This is new for me, and I only have one very small investment in it… marijuana,” he said. “Now normally I wouldn’t touch these stocks, but President Trump is making noise that he’s going to do something. On Truth Social he put out a video basically lauding and praising the effects of weed for elder Americans. An entire video.”
Eisman said the industry’s biggest obstacles remain regulation and lack of banking, but Trump’s repeated praise of marijuana has shifted his perspective.
“This is the second time he’s done this in the last month. So I’m starting to think maybe el presidente is going to do something significant in weed and maybe we should own some weed stocks.”
When asked if that meant federal legalization, Eisman replied, “I don’t know, watch the video.. it’s shocking, it’s really shocking.”
