Arizona generated $20,678,253 in marijuana tax revenue in October, according to newly released data from the Department of Revenue. This brings the year-to-date total to nearly a quarter of a billion dollars.
The figure reflects combined adult-use, medical, and excise collections. Through the first 10 months of 2025, Arizona has collected $233,223,538 in total marijuana tax revenue.
The year-to-date total spans January through October and includes state, county, city, and education tax components along with the excise tax on adult-use products. Monthly totals have remained consistently strong throughout the year, with every month surpassing $20 million in combined collections.
Arizona’s recreational marijuana law was approved by voters in November 2020 through Proposition 207, which legalized possession and sales for adults 21 and older. The state moved quickly to implement the program, with the first licensed recreational dispensaries opening in January 2021—one of the fastest transitions from passage to retail sales of any state. Adult-use purchases are subject to the standard sales tax plus a 16% excise tax, while medical marijuana sales continue under the state’s traditional sales-tax framework.
With October now added, Arizona’s 2025 marijuana tax collections remain on pace for another strong year, reinforcing the industry’s role as a reliable and significant revenue source for statewide programs and local jurisdictions.
