Kentucky Opens Second Medical Marijuana Dispensary and First Processing Facility

Kentucky’s medical marijuana program marked another milestone this week as Governor Andy Beshear announced the opening of the state’s second licensed dispensary and the launch of its first medical marijuana processor, signaling that product availability is set to expand in the coming weeks.

According to the governor’s office, Gov. Beshear on Tuesday participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Speakeasy Dispensary in Lexington, officially allowing eligible Kentuckians to purchase medical marijuana at the location as of 10 a.m. The Lexington dispensary is only the second to open statewide, following the Post Dispensary in Beaver Dam, which began serving patients in December.

The announcement also highlighted progress on the supply side of the program. Gov. Beshear helped cut the ribbon on Natural State GreenGrass CannaCo, a Tier 3 cultivation facility located in Madison County. Tier 3 licenses allow for larger-scale growing operations, which are expected to play a significant role in meeting patient demand as the program continues to roll out.

In addition, state officials marked the opening of Kentucky’s first medical marijuana processor, Bison Infused, located in Dayton. The facility will be responsible for turning raw marijuana into finished products, a step that is essential for expanding the range of options available to patients. The governor’s office said this development will result in multiple medical marijuana products becoming available to eligible Kentuckians in the coming weeks.

“Medical cannabis will help people in need live fuller lives with less pain. It will help our economy. It will help create more jobs. It’s truly a win-win for everyone,” said Gov. Beshear. “We kept our promise to deliver safe medical cannabis to eligible Kentuckians – and Team Kentucky is going to keep seeing through that commitment.”

Kentucky’s medical marijuana program officially launched at the start of the year, with dispensary openings and operational facilities rolling out in phases as licenses are activated and businesses come online.
