Adult-use marijuana sales accounted for $137.8 million of the April total, while medical marijuana sales added $12.2 million. The combined figure was identical to April 2025, despite dried marijuana prices falling below $4 per gram for the first time since legal sales began.
By the end of April, the average price of dried flower in Massachusetts had dropped to $3.89 per gram, down 6% from $4.15 in April 2025. The average cost per ounce is now $110.28, down from $117.65 a year ago.
Since legal sales began, Massachusetts marijuana retailers have now sold about $11 billion worth of products. Adult-use sales account for $9.4 billion of that total, with medical marijuana making up the remainder.
Massachusetts voters legalized adult-use marijuana in 2016, with the first recreational stores opening in November 2018. Adults 21 and older may possess up to two ounces of marijuana in public and up to 10 ounces at home, and they may cultivate up to six plants for personal use, with a household cap of 12 plants.
Under state law, adult-use marijuana is subject to a 6.25% state sales tax and 10.75% excise tax, with localities allowed to place an additional tax of up to 3%.
