Minnesota marijuana sales continued to climb in April, with licensed retailers selling around $25 million worth of products, according to newly released state data.
The April total includes approximately $15 million in adult-use marijuana sales and $10 million in medical marijuana sales. That brings Minnesota’s 2026 total to roughly $85 million through the first four months of the year, based on previously reported monthly totals of about $19 million in January, $18 million in February and $22 million in March.
The new data shows a market that continues to expand on both the adult-use and medical sides, though adult-use sales are increasingly driving overall growth. In April, adult-use purchases accounted for about 60% of the month’s total, while medical marijuana represented the remaining 40%.
Minnesota’s licensed marijuana footprint has also continued to grow. The state now has 139 adult-use retail sites and 21 medical retail sites. There are also 54 cultivation sites, 28 manufacturing sites, seven transporting sites and four testing sites.
Trailing 12-month marijuana sales now stand at $177.85 million, with the state reporting 2,085,076 total transactions during that period.
Flower remains the largest product category, accounting for $85 million in trailing 12-month sales. Concentrates followed at $55 million, with shake and trim at $20 million, edibles at $14 million and nonedible products at $3 million.
Medical patients continue to purchase more flower by volume than adult-use consumers. Over the trailing 12 months, medical flower sales totaled 128,000 ounces, or 54% of the combined flower market, compared with 108,000 ounces, or 46%, for adult-use flower.
The state’s pricing data also shows a sizable gap between the two markets. The median retail price for medical flower is $9.52 per gram, compared with $14.54 per gram for adult-use flower.
Minnesota legalized marijuana in 2023, with the law taking effect on August 1 of that year and the state’s first adult-use sales beginning in 2025. Adults 21 and older may possess up to two ounces of marijuana in public and up to two pounds at home. Adult-use marijuana sales are subject to a 15% cannabis tax, in addition to the state’s 6.875% sales tax and any applicable local taxes.
