Massachusetts Legal Marijuana Sales Top $700 Million So Far in 2026

Licensed marijuana dispensaries in Massachusetts have sold $706 million worth of products so far in 2026, as of May 24, according to new data released today by the state’s Cannabis Control Commission.

Adult-use marijuana stores have reported around $650 million in year-to-date sales, while medical marijuana treatment centers have recorded about $56.6 million in sales to patients and caregivers. Combined, the two markets have generated roughly $706.6 million in 2026 sales.

The adult-use market continues to account for the vast majority of legal marijuana purchases in Massachusetts. Recreational retailers reported $32.8 million in sales during the most recent weekly reporting period, covering May 18 through May 24. Monthly adult-use totals have remained strong throughout the year, with $135.5 million in January, $124.4 million in February, $136 million in March, $137.8 million in April and $112.1 million so far in May.

Since adult-use marijuana retailers first opened in Massachusetts in November 2018, the market has generated about $9.5 billion in total sales. Medical marijuana sales, tracked separately since 2018, have now reached about $1.61 billion. Combined, total sales have now reached $11.11 billion.

Massachusetts legalized adult-use marijuana in 2016, with the state’s first recreational marijuana stores opening two years later.
