Montana Legal Marijuana Sales Top $27.8 Million in June, Reach $162 Million in First Half of 2026

Legal marijuana sales in Montana reached $27,860,848 in June, bringing the state’s total for the first half of 2026 to $161,993,766, according to data from the Montana Department of Revenue.

June’s total includes $25,251,188 in adult-use sales and $2,609,660 in medical marijuana sales. The monthly total was up slightly from May, when dispensaries reported $27,706,021 in combined sales, and also above June 2025’s total of $27,123,762.

Through the first six months of 2026, adult-use marijuana sales accounted for $145,636,093, while medical marijuana sales reached $16,357,673. Adult-use purchases made up roughly 90% of all legal marijuana sales during the period.

Montana’s first-half total is also ahead of the same period last year. From January through June 2025, dispensaries sold $157,052,491 worth of marijuana products, meaning sales are up by $4,941,275, or about 3.1%, so far this year.

Since legal adult-use sales launched in January 2022, Montana dispensaries have reported $1,435,914,302 in combined marijuana sales. That includes $1,180,724,101 in adult-use sales and $255,190,201 in medical marijuana sales. Over that same period, the state has generated $246,352,428 in marijuana tax revenue, including $236,144,820 from adult-use sales and $10,207,608 from medical marijuana.

Montana voters approved adult-use marijuana legalization in November 2020, with legal possession taking effect Jan. 1, 2021. Adult-use sales began Jan. 1, 2022, when previously licensed medical marijuana providers in eligible counties were allowed to begin selling to adults 21 and older. Adults may possess up to one ounce of marijuana flower, 800 milligrams of THC in infused products, or eight grams or milliliters of concentrates. Medical marijuana is taxed at 4%, while adult-use marijuana is taxed at 20%, with counties allowed to impose an additional local-option tax of up to 3%.
