Oakland Ballers Baseball Team to Become Oaksterdam Blazers for Marijuana-Themed Game on July 31

The Oakland Ballers will temporarily become the Oaksterdam Blazers during a marijuana-themed baseball game scheduled for July 31 at Raimondi Park.

The independent professional baseball team is partnering with Oaksterdam University for the event, which will be held as part of Grateful Dead Night. The Ballers say it will mark the first time a professional baseball team has partnered with and celebrated the legal marijuana industry during a live game.

Players will wear lime green uniforms featuring purple and orange trim and the Blazers name across the chest. A marijuana leaf patch shown in the original uniform design will not be included on the jerseys worn during the game.

The alternate identity began as an April Fools’ joke. The Ballers introduced the Oakland Blazers name and uniforms on social media in April, presenting the concept as a tribute to Oakland’s culture, creativity and marijuana industry.

After the design received a strong response from fans, the organization decided to turn it into an actual promotional night. The team has since adopted the Oaksterdam Blazers name for the event through its partnership with Oaksterdam University, a marijuana education institution based in Oakland.

Activities will begin at 10 a.m. with an Emerald Farms bus tour available to adults 21 and older. The tour will include stops at dispensaries and marijuana consumption lounges operated by Oakland-certified equity businesses.

Organizers say the tour will also highlight entrepreneurs, advocates and community leaders involved in establishing and expanding Oakland’s regulated marijuana industry.

Marijuana-related activities will be limited to adults, but the game and broader ballpark experience will remain open to fans of all ages.

Oaksterdam Blazers jerseys, hats and other merchandise have also been released. Proceeds will help support educational and charitable work conducted by Oaksterdam University and its partners.
