New York Marijuana Sales Reach $165.8 Million in August, Year-to-Date Total Tops $1.22 Billion

New York marijuana sales reached an estimated $165.76 million in August, bringing the state’s 2026 total to approximately $1.22 billion through the first eight months of the year, according to new market data from Headset.

The year-to-date total is roughly 17% higher than the approximately $1.05 billion generated during the same period in 2025, an increase of about $177 million.

August sales alone were up 6.4% from the same month last year. The September 3 data snapshot shows that growth in the number of products sold considerably outpaced growth in overall spending, with unit sales increasing 16.5% year over year.

The average marijuana item sold for $29.05 in August, compared with $31.80 a year earlier. The combination of lower average prices and a double-digit increase in units sold indicates that consumers purchased substantially more products even as price compression limited the increase in total revenue.

Flower remained New York’s largest product category during the month, generating an estimated $54.72 million in sales, up 1.3% from August 2025.

Vapor pens were second at $42.34 million, an 8.7% year-over-year increase, followed closely by pre-rolls at $38.66 million. Pre-roll sales jumped 16.1% from a year earlier, making the category one of the market’s stronger performers.

Edibles generated another $20.32 million, while concentrates accounted for $4.86 million. Concentrate sales increased 25.3% year over year, the largest percentage increase among the major product categories tracked by Headset.

Beverages generated approximately $2.7 million, followed by tinctures and sublingual products at $1.36 million, capsules at $470,000 and topicals at $330,000.

New York’s estimated $165.76 million in August sales placed it among the country’s largest legal marijuana markets tracked by Headset, behind California and Michigan but ahead of markets including Illinois, New Jersey, Washington and Arizona.

Headset’s figures are commercial market estimates and may differ from sales totals subsequently reported by New York state regulators.
