Global Medical Marijuana Market Projected to Reach $106.5 Billion by 2030, Growing 22% Annually

The global medical marijuana market is projected to more than double over the next four years, reaching $106.49 billion by 2030, according to a market analysis from The Business Research Company.

The firm’s 2026 Medical Marijuana Market Report estimates that the worldwide market will grow from $39.52 billion in 2025 to $48.13 billion in 2026, an increase of 21.8%. From 2026 through 2030, the industry is forecast to expand at a compound annual growth rate of 22%, bringing its total value above $100 billion for the first time.

The report identifies expanding medical marijuana legalization, growing patient demand, increased scientific research and improvements in product development as major contributors to the anticipated growth. Researchers also point to greater adoption of marijuana for pain management, increasing investments in cannabinoid-based pharmaceuticals and advances in extraction and formulation technologies.

North America accounted for the largest share of the global medical marijuana market in 2025, while the Asia-Pacific region is projected to experience the fastest growth in the coming years. The report examines markets across North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

Among the developments expected to influence the industry are the expansion of medical marijuana dispensaries, increased use of telemedicine, greater availability of online purchasing options and continued innovation in products such as oils, tinctures, concentrates and edibles.

The analysis covers multiple medical applications, including chronic pain, migraines, multiple sclerosis, cancer-related symptoms, Tourette syndrome, Alzheimer’s disease, depression and anxiety. It also examines the market for dried marijuana flower and extracted products, along with distribution through retail pharmacies, e-commerce platforms and other channels.

Major companies identified in the report include Curaleaf, Trulieve, Green Thumb Industries, Cresco Labs, Tilray, Canopy Growth, Aurora Cannabis, Organigram and Planet 13, among others.

The projections reflect expectations that medical marijuana will become increasingly integrated into healthcare markets as regulatory frameworks evolve and additional countries establish or expand access programs. However, the figures remain forecasts, with actual growth dependent on regulatory developments, patient adoption and broader market conditions.
