Ohio Division of Cannabis Control (DCC) data shows that there was $58 million in recreational marijuana sold in January, as well as $26 million in medical marijuana. Combined, there was $84 million in total licensed marijuana sales for the month.
Since the start of legal medical marijuana sales in the state, Ohio has generated $2,389,460,666 in all-time sales, spread across 22,211,023 transactions. Since the launch of the state’s recreational marijuana market on August 7, there has been $470 million in licensed marijuana sales.
As of February 1, the average cost per gram of dried marijuana is at an all-time low of $6.78. This marks a substantial decrease from the $9.40 average reported in August.
Under Ohio’s marijuana laws, individuals aged 21 and older can legally possess up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana and 15 grams of concentrates. Medical marijuana patients are allowed to possess a 90-day supply, which includes up to eight ounces of dried marijuana or 26.55 grams of concentrates.
Recreational purchases are subject to a 10% excise tax, Ohio’s 5.75% state sales tax, and additional local sales taxes ranging from 0.25% to 2.25%. Medical marijuana patients, however, are exempt from the excise tax and only pay the state sales tax. Based on these numbers, the state has generated $55 million in marijuana tax revenue since August 7.
