High Times’ Intellectual Property Once Again Up for Sale

The intellectual property of the cannabis brand High Times, including its magazine, Cannabis Cup events, and trademarks, is back on the market.

The assets, which also include domain names such as 420.com, photographs, books, calendars, and other media-related materials, are being sold through a court-ordered receivership managed by Green Life Business Group. Bids are open until March 4, according to a report by MJBizDaily.

This is at least the third attempt to sell High Times’ intellectual property since September 2023, when Canada-based Lucy Scientific Discovery announced plans to acquire it in an all-stock deal. That acquisition never closed, and the assets returned to the market months later under new management.

Unlike a prior sale that included marijuana business licenses, this offering consists solely of intellectual property. The absence of licenses may limit interest from potential buyers, as many previous bidders were primarily interested in acquiring operational businesses. Financial experts suggest that the sale could draw minimal competition given the brand’s recent struggles.

High Times’ ongoing operations remain unclear. Its website has been down for over a week, and its social media presence has dwindled, with its last Instagram post appearing in mid-January to promote Cannabis Cup judging kits. The most recent known issue of its magazine was published in September 2024.

Records indicate that two inactive retail licenses in Oklahoma remain under the High Times Dispensary name, while a conditional retail license in New Jersey was pending as of mid-2023. A recent search of state listings did not show any dispensaries currently operating under the High Times brand.

The court-appointed receiver handling the sale had previously overseen assets from other collapsed cannabis companies. Despite ongoing efforts to offload High Times’ intellectual property, prior attempts have failed to finalize deals, leaving the brand’s future uncertain.

Bidders have until March 4 to submit offers, but whether High Times can find a buyer willing to invest in its name without operational assets remains to be seen.
