Connecticut’s legal cannabis industry recorded $24,691,553 in sales during August, according to new data from the Department of Consumer Protection.
Of that total, $18,800,291 came from adult-use purchases and $5,891,262 from medical marijuana. The adult-use total marks a new monthly record for the state since recreational sales began in January 2023.
With August included, year-to-date marijuana sales in Connecticut have now reached $185,761,531. Adult-use continues to lead the market, with medical sales maintaining a consistent share despite showing slight declines compared to last year.
The average cost per gram of dried cannabis in August remained $8.89.
Marijuana in Connecticut is taxed at 6.35% for recreational purchases, in addition to a THC-based excise tax, while medical sales remain tax-exempt. The state legalized marijuana in 2021, with sales beginning in early 2023. Adults 21 and older can legally possess up to 1.5 ounces in public and store up to five ounces at home, with home cultivation of up to six plants also allowed.
