In Michigan there was $245 million in legal marijuana and marijuana products sold in April.
The $246,054,243 sold in April is a slight decrease from the $249 million sold in March, which remains the monthly record. Of the $246 million sold, just $7,842,858 was medical marijuana, with the remaining $238,211,384 coming from the legal distribution of recreational marijuana. All of this data was released by Michigan’s Cannabis Regulatory Agency.
Legal recreational marijuana sales to date for Michigan now stand at $4,824,354,219, with medical marijuana sales at $4,824,354,219. The combined total is $6,385,680,665
The current average cost per ounce of recreational marijuana is $87.60, a $0.73 increase from March. For medical marijuana, the average cost is higher at $94.12.
In March recreational marijuana sales were as follows:
- Flower: $114,296,766.49
- Shake/Trim: $18,215,622.09
- Concentrate: $14,883,514.69
- Inhalable Compound Concentrate: $20,145,104.57
- Vape Cartridge:$44,305,365.31
- Kief: $56,974.54
- Infused-Edible: $24,867,175.70
- Infused Non-Edible Solid: $596,824.54
- Infused Liquid: $794,872.44
- Infused Non-Edible Liquid: $49,164.06
The marijuana sales in March resulted in roughly $30 million in taxes for Michigan. Marijuana tax revenue is distributed as follows:
- 15% to cities that allow marijuana businesses
- 15% to counties that allow marijuana businesses
- 35% to the School Aid Fund to be used for K-12 education.
- 35% to the Michigan Transportation Fund to be used for the repair and maintenance of roads and bridges.
Michigan voters legalized marijuana in November, 2018. The law allows those 21 and older to possess up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana and up to 15 grams of concentrate. The first recreational marijuana retail outlet opened in December, 2019.
