Marijuana sales were above $25 million for the fourth straight month in Montana.
$26,935,335 worth of marijuana and marijuana products were sold legally in June throughout Montana, according to data released by the Montana Cannabis Control Division. This is just $163,344 shy of the monthly record set in March.
A large majority of these sales were to recreational marijuana consumers – $21,848,306 – with $5,087,029 sold to medical marijuana patients.
Total marijuana sales since the first recreational marijuana store opened in January, 2022 is nearing half a billion dollars at $458,988,675. These sales resulted in $71 million in tax revenue for the state.
The $21.8 million in recreational marijuana sold in June is a roughly $1 million increase over the total for May. However, medical marijuana sales were down slightly ($200,000) in June compared to May.
In Montana’s those 21 and older are allowed to possess up to one ounce of marijuana, with marijuana taxed at 20% for recreational marijuana, and 4% for medical marijuana. The law legalizing recreational marijuana was passed in 2021, with the first marijuana store opening in January, 2022.
