Mississippi dispensaries sold more than $158.7 million worth of medical marijuana during fiscal year 2026, while the state collected more than $8.36 million in medical marijuana excise taxes and dispensary license fees, according to newly released state data.
The Mississippi Joint Legislative Budget Committee’s final fiscal 2026 revenue report lists $8,362,841 under medical cannabis excise tax and dispensary license fee collections. Fiscal year 2026 ran from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026.
Separate data from the Mississippi Department of Revenue shows licensed dispensaries recorded $158,763,559 in medical marijuana retail sales during the same fiscal year.
Sales were relatively consistent throughout the year, while reaching their highest quarterly level during the final three months. The state reported $37,193,843 in first-quarter sales, $39,829,091 in the second quarter, $39,517,486 in the third quarter and $42,223,140 in the fourth quarter.
Mississippi’s Department of Revenue collects a 5% excise tax from medical marijuana cultivation facilities on their first sale or transfer of marijuana to another licensed medical marijuana establishment. Dispensaries also collect the state’s standard sales tax from patients at the point of sale.
The $8.36 million revenue figure reported by the Joint Legislative Budget Committee combines the cultivation excise tax with dispensary license fees and therefore does not represent the total amount of tax generated by retail medical marijuana purchases.
The state separately reported $3,858,894 in medical cannabis establishment license fees under another General Fund revenue category for fiscal 2026.
Mississippi’s medical marijuana retail-sales figures are derived from the state’s Metrc tracking system and include marijuana products but not paraphernalia. Legal medical marijuana sales began in Mississippi in January 2023.
