New Mexico: In October, $46 Million in Legal Marijuana Sold, Over 1.1 Million Transactions

Although October marijuana sales didn’t top the monthly sales record set in September, they weren’t far off.

According to the New Mexico Regulation & Licensing Department, there was $46,682,243 worth of legal marijuana sold throughout October, roughly $1 million short of the record breaking $47.7 million sold in August.

In October medical marijuana patients purchased $12,051,505 worth of marijuana and marijuana products, with adult-use sales reaching $34.6 million.

According to the Department there are currently 1,035 marijuana stores opened throughout New Mexico (14 more than last month), with a total of 1,105,836 different transactions occurring in October. This is around 37k more transactions than in September, and around 50k more than in August.

All-time marijuana sales now stand at $818,877,044.75, spread out over 17,001,641 different transactions. 12,300,804 of these transactions were recreational consumers, with there being 5,560,587 marijuana transactions by medical marijuana patients.

In New Mexico those 21 and older are allowed to purchase and possess up to two ounces of marijuana, up to 16 grams of marijuana extract and up to 800mg of marijuana-infused edibles, via legislation passed in 2021. Marijuana is taxed roughly 5% at the point of sale. Recreational marijuana sales also have an additional 12% excise tax, with medical marijuana sales being exempt.
