Multiple medical marijuana-related bills, including one to double the possession limit and several to grow the list of qualifying medical conditions, have been scheduled for public hearings in the New Hampshire Legislature.
New Hampshire first legalized medical marijuana in 2013, with the state’s first dispensary opening in 2016. Now, at least five different bills that would alter the state’s medical marijuana law have been filed in the state’s legislature, and scheduled for public hearings.
Below is a look at all five medical marijuana bills that will receive public hearings on January 18.
House Bill 1240
Filed by State Representative Heath Howard with five cosponsors, this measure would add eating disorders to the list of conditions that qualify someone to become a medical marijuana patient. This would include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder and avoidant restrictive food intake disorder.
The measure is scheduled for a hearing at 10:00 am on January 18 at the Legislative Office Building 210-211.
House Bill 1349
Also filed by Representative Howard with five cosponsors (this time with bipartisan support), House Bill 1349 would add generalized anxiety disorder to the state’s list of medical marijuana conditions.

House Bill 1278
Filed by Representative Wendy Thomas with five cosponsors, this proposal “changes the definition of “qualifying medical condition” under RSA 126-X, the state’s therapeutic cannabis law, by adding any debilitating or terminal medical condition for which therapeutic cannabis is recommended by a clinical provider.”
In other words, it would allow physicians to recommend medical marijuana for any condition they deem appropriate.
The measure is scheduled for a hearing at 9:30 am on January 18 at the Legislative Office Building 210-211.
House Bill 1350
Filed by Rep. Howard with four cosponsors, this measure would a make a simple but impactful change – it would double the possession limit for medical marijuana patients, increasing it from two ounces to four ounces.

House Bill 1231
Filed by Rep. Thomas with four cosponsors, HB 1231 would allow qualified patients and caregivers to cultivate medical marijuana in an enclosed location at a personal residence.
The proposed law would also alter the amount of marijuana plants an alternative treatment center can have. Specifically, it would change the 80 plant max, which did not differentiate between mature or immature plants, to be a max of 80 mature plants, 160 immature plants and an unlimited number of seedlings.
