Trulieve Cannabis Corp. is preparing to open three medical marijuana dispensaries in Texas this fall, marking a major expansion into one of the nation’s most restrictive cannabis markets.
The multistate operator is targeting September openings for locations in Austin, Dallas and San Antonio, according to renovation filings with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation first reported by the Austin American-Statesman.
The filings show Trulieve plans to spend $250,000 renovating a 4,060-square-foot Austin location, $200,000 on a 1,324-square-foot Dallas location and $200,000 on a 2,753-square-foot San Antonio location.
Trulieve announced in December that it had received conditional approval for a Texas Dispensing Organization license. Once open, the company will join Texas Original, goodblend and Fluent as one of the few operators licensed to serve patients through the state’s Compassionate Use Program.
Texas launched the program in 2015, initially limiting access to low-THC medical cannabis products for patients with intractable epilepsy. Lawmakers have since expanded eligibility to include conditions such as multiple sclerosis, autism, post-traumatic stress disorder, cancer and chronic pain.
The state’s medical marijuana market is also poised for further expansion under House Bill 46, approved in 2025, which requires regulators to issue additional dispensing organization licenses.
Trulieve’s Texas plans come as the company continues to adjust its business around the recent federal rescheduling of certain medical marijuana products. In April, the Justice Department moved FDA-approved marijuana products and marijuana products regulated under qualifying state medical licenses to Schedule III.
Following that move, Trulieve said its consolidated operations now consist entirely of state-licensed medical marijuana assets registered with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. The company operates 206 dispensaries supported by 3.5 million square feet of production capacity.
Trulieve also recently became the first U.S. marijuana operator to trade on the New York Stock Exchange, listing under the ticker symbol TRLV.
