Rare Cannabinoid Company has launched a free educational guide explaining the endocannabinoid system and how cannabinoids including CBD, THC, CBG, CBN, CBC, THCV and CBDV interact with the body.
The Honolulu-based hemp wellness company announced Thursday that the guide, titled “What is the Endocannabinoid System? How the ECS Works,” is intended to provide consumers with an accessible overview of the biological system involved in cannabinoid signaling.
The endocannabinoid system, or ECS, is a cell-signaling network found throughout the human body regardless of whether a person uses marijuana or hemp products. It includes cannabinoid receptors, naturally occurring signaling compounds known as endocannabinoids and enzymes responsible for creating and breaking down those compounds.
Rare Cannabinoid Company’s guide covers the three primary components of the system, including CB1 and CB2 receptors, the endocannabinoids anandamide and 2-arachidonoylglycerol, commonly known as 2-AG, and enzymes including FAAH and MAGL.
“People are increasingly familiar with CBD and THC, and even CBG and CBN, but many still do not know that the body produces its own endocannabinoids or that different plant cannabinoids interact with signaling systems in distinct ways,” said a spokesperson for Rare Cannabinoid Company. “We created this guide to give readers a clear foundation for understanding the endocannabinoid system and the growing range of cannabinoids now available.”
The resource also explains the distinction between endocannabinoids produced by the body and phytocannabinoids found in marijuana and hemp. It discusses THC’s direct activity at cannabinoid receptors and CBD’s more indirect interactions with multiple molecular pathways.
Separate sections address lesser-known cannabinoids such as CBG, CBN, CBC, THCV and CBDV, including differences in their chemical structures and how they interact with biological signaling systems.
The company says the guide also answers common questions about CB1 and CB2 receptors, whether everyone has an endocannabinoid system, why cannabinoids may produce different effects and whether the ECS can be “boosted.” It includes an overview of the discovery of the endocannabinoid system and references to additional scientific material.
“The endocannabinoid system is often reduced to a few simple statements, but it is a responsive network that works alongside many other signaling systems,” the company spokesperson said. “Our goal is to provide useful cannabinoid education without suggesting that every cannabinoid works in the same way or that every experience can be explained by one receptor.”
