Montana Marijuana Sales Reach $29.2 Million in August, $221 Million So Far in 2026, With All-Time Sales Reach $1.5 Billion

Montana’s legal marijuana market generated $29.2 million in sales in August, bringing sales through the first eight months of 2026 to more than $221 million, according to newly updated data from the Montana Department of Revenue.

The August total included $26,607,435 in adult-use marijuana sales and $2,592,774 in medical marijuana sales. Combined sales reached $29,200,209, down about 2.6% from the $29,992,180 reported in July.

From January through August, Montana retailers reported approximately $221.19 million in marijuana sales. During the same eight-month period in 2025, sales totaled approximately $216.56 million. That represents an increase of about $4.63 million, or 2.1%.

The growth has been driven by the recreational market. Adult-use marijuana sales totaled approximately $199.5 million through August, up about 4.5% from roughly $190.9 million during the first eight months of 2025.

Medical marijuana sales, meanwhile, have continued to decline. Medical sales totaled approximately $21.7 million through August, compared with about $25.7 million during the same period last year, a decrease of nearly 16%.

Since recreational sales began in January 2022, Montana has recorded approximately $1.495 billion in combined marijuana sales, including $1.235 billion in adult-use purchases and $260.5 million in medical sales, according to the Department of Revenue.
