New Jersey Has Approved 2,568 Marijuana Business Applications, With 3,267 Submitted

New Jersey regulators have approved 2,568 marijuana business applications since the launch of the state’s regulated market, according to updated licensing data presented during today’s Cannabis Regulatory Commission meeting.

The New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission (NJ-CRC) reported that as of September 1, a total of 3,267 applications had been submitted, with 2,568 approved.

Another four applications were under review by the Office of Licensing, while 122 were awaiting resubmission following the state’s cure process. An additional 96 applications were under review by the Office of Compliance & Investigations.

The commission also provided a breakdown of recreational marijuana licensing approvals. As of September 1, regulators had approved 1,700 conditional licenses, 504 conditional-to-annual conversions and 363 annual licenses. The state has also approved 93 expanded medical marijuana permits.

The figures show continued, although relatively modest, licensing activity since the commission’s previous update. As of July 29, New Jersey had received 3,255 applications and approved 2,555, meaning 12 additional applications were submitted and 13 more were approved during the intervening period.

During that earlier update, the commission reported 1,695 conditional licenses, 504 conditional-to-annual conversions, 355 annual licenses and 92 expanded medical permits. That means the totals have since increased by five conditional licenses, eight annual licenses and one expanded medical permit, while the number of conversions remained unchanged.

The number of applications awaiting further action has also declined. Applications pending resubmission following cure fell from 140 to 122, while applications under compliance and investigations review declined from 98 to 96. The number under review by the Office of Licensing fell from eight to four.

Today’s meeting was held virtually and included consideration of license changes, conditional-to-annual conversions, annual licenses, waivers and enforcement matters.
