Washington, D.C. Medical Marijuana Sales Reach $77.8 Million So Far in 2026, Up 32% From 2025

Washington, D.C.’s medical marijuana market generated $9.85 million in sales in August, bringing sales through the first eight months of 2026 to more than $77.8 million.

The $9,846,506 generated in August represents a 7.2% decline from the record $10,605,830 reported in July, but a 19.4% increase from the $8,245,291 generated in August 2025, according to a new report from the District’s Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration. July remains the district’s all-time monthly sales record.

Licensed dispensaries accounted for $6,489,456 of August’s total, down from $6,601,905 in July but up 19.1% from $5,447,082 during the same month last year. Cultivation center sales totaled $686,460, while manufacturers generated $2,670,590. Both figures were higher than in August 2025, when cultivation centers reported $588,546 and manufacturers generated $2,209,663.

Through August, combined medical marijuana sales have reached $77,813,816 in 2026, an increase of around $19.2 million (32.8%) from the same period in 2025. Monthly sales have remained above $9 million every month in 2026 since March, including more than $10 million in April, May, June and July. July’s $10.61 million remains the highest monthly total recorded by the program.

The number of registered D.C. resident patients continued to rise, increasing from 136,882 in July to 143,556 in August, a gain of 6,674 patients. However, the number of unique patients served by a registered dispensary declined from 40,863 to 39,382. The district had 66 licensed retailers in August, up from 65 in July.

D.C. residents made $4,062,746 in purchases during August, while self-certified temporary patients from outside the district accounted for $1,973,150. Patients participating through reciprocity programs generated another $453,559.

Flower remained the largest retail product category, generating $3,307,385 from 726 pounds sold. Vape cartridges generated $1,194,800, followed by infused edibles at $782,223 and raw pre-rolls at $727,825. Infused concentrates generated $134,252, while tincture sales totaled $84,189.

August marked a pullback from July’s record, but sales remained nearly $1.6 million higher than during the same month in 2025 as the district’s medical marijuana market continues to substantially outpace last year’s levels.
