Ohio’s legal marijuana market has generated an estimated $1.05 billion in sales during 2026, bringing combined medical and recreational marijuana sales to $4.43 billion since the programs began, according to newly updated state figures.
The Ohio Division of Cannabis Control reported October 16 that total marijuana product sales reached $4,425,955,615 through October 10. That includes $1,987,109,580 in recreational sales and $2,438,844,126 in medical marijuana sales.
An analysis of the state’s historical sales data indicates approximately $1.05 billion of those purchases occurred during 2026, including roughly $904.3 million in recreational sales and $146.4 million in medical purchases. Recreational marijuana has accounted for approximately 86% of the state’s legal marijuana market this year.
The latest figures represent a $136.5 million increase from September 5, when cumulative sales stood at $4.29 billion. At that time, estimated 2026 sales totaled approximately $914 million.
Ohio’s recreational market has grown rapidly since launching on August 6, 2024, following voter approval of legalization in November 2023. Recreational purchases now account for nearly 45% of all marijuana sales recorded in the state, despite the medical program having operated since January 2019.
In addition to the revenue figures, the state reports that licensed dispensaries have sold 681,864 pounds of marijuana plant material and more than 74.6 million units of manufactured marijuana products since regulated sales began. The programs have generated more than 51.6 million transaction receipts.
Ohio currently has 232 dual-use dispensaries authorized to serve both medical patients and recreational consumers, along with 47 additional dispensaries holding provisional licenses. The state also lists 37 operating cultivators, 45 processors and six testing laboratories, with 9,894 individuals holding active industry employee licenses.
Average marijuana flower prices for the week ending October 10 were $6.55 per gram, or $18.55 per one-tenth of an ounce. The average price for manufactured marijuana products was $23.32.
The Division of Cannabis Control publishes cumulative sales figures rather than a separate calendar-year total. The estimated 2026 figures were calculated using historical reports, with sales for the first three days of January estimated proportionally from the reporting week that crossed into the new year.
With more than $1 billion already generated in 2026 and recreational sales approaching $2 billion since launch, Ohio has become one of the country’s largest legal marijuana markets.
