The University of Mississippi (“Ole Miss”) has announced a new master’s degree program that has a large focus on medical marijuana.
The university has announced that the new two-year online program under the School of Pharmacy will open in fall 2024, reports the Clarion Ledger. The course will cover two subjects; dietary supplements and medical marijuana.
“The purpose is to provide advanced training for people who are seeking employment or want to advance their current jobs in dietary supplements, which could be herbal products or medical cannabis,” says David Colby, director of online graduate programs in the biomedical sciences department
Colby says the college is “focused on providing the skills for people to be successful in the industry. We’re a national leader in dietary supplements and medical cannabis. And now we’re going to fully build a curriculum across our university to serve our students.”
The program will be separated into two parts – dietary supplements and medical marijuana – with each including five courses and totaling 30 credit hours.
The Institution of Higher Learning recently approved the program and its courses.
The University of Mississippi has a long history with cannabis, having studied the plant since contracting with the National Institute on Mental Health in 1968. The university’s marijuana research program is still active 55 years later.
