The Top-Selling Cannabis Strain in All 23 States With Recreational Marijuana Markets as of August 2026

Cannabis preferences continue to vary substantially across the country, with established classics such as Blue Dream and Sour Diesel competing against newer favorites including Mule Fuel, Triple Burger and Hash Burger.
The following list covers all 23 states with operating recreational marijuana markets. Virginia is not included because regulated adult-use retail sales are not scheduled to begin there until July 1, 2027.
For the 15 states covered by cannabis research firm Headset, the rankings are based on market information gathered through participating marijuana retailers. For the other eight states, the top strain was gathered using data provided by either state regulatory agencies or the strain review and tracking site Leafly.
That said, here’s the top-selling cannabis strain in all 23 states with operation adult-use cannabis markets:
